Philosophy of Care
I believe that midwives are poised with the knowledge and ability to provide quality, evidence-based care to the individuals and families they serve. In my own practice, I seek to honor this diverse community and provide competent care that is rooted in my strong belief of the normal physiologic process of birth. This style of care prioritizes the needs of the individual and family unit and encourages client autonomy through the informed decision-making process. My role lies in helping clients navigate the choices they make about their own health through a respectful and inclusive collaboration and supporting them at every decision within my scope of practice.
Midwifery Model of Care
The Midwives Model of Care is a uniquly different approach to pregnancy and birth compared to current obstetrics care in the United States. Midwifery is intently focused on patient centered care that emphasizes the value in a true relationship with your care provider and includes:
“monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the client throughout the childbearing cycle;
providing the client wtih individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support;
minimizing technoligical interventions, and;
identifying and referring clients who require obstetrical attention.”
The use of this model of care has been shown to reduce the incidence of birth injury, birth truama, and cesarean section.
